Abstract

The background of this research stems from the importance of the concept of adab (ethics) in the process of seeking knowledge as the foundation for developing knowledgeable individuals with morals and civilization in Islam. Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas views the crisis in modern education as a result of the loss of adab (ethics) in knowledge. This study aims to examine in-depth the concept of adab in knowledge from Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas' perspective and its relevance to education and the character formation of Muslims. The research method used is a literature review (library research) with a descriptive-analytical approach to Al-Attas's main works and relevant supporting literature. The research results show that Al-Attas places adab (ethics) at the core of Islamic education, encompassing adab in knowledge, which serves as a moral, spiritual, and intellectual foundation that regulates behavior, the hierarchy of knowledge, and knowledge of reality. Adab serves as the foundation of Islamic epistemology, ensuring that knowledge is bound by revelation, and shaping the goals of Islamic education, which emphasize the integration of knowledge, morality, and spirituality. This concept is relevant in the modern context to produce individuals who are balanced and ethically and transcendentally responsible
